{"id":3029,"date":"2014-11-22T00:51:33","date_gmt":"2014-11-22T00:51:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/friendsofguisachan.org\/welcome\/?page_id=3029"},"modified":"2018-09-17T18:26:30","modified_gmt":"2018-09-17T18:26:30","slug":"events-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/friendsofguisachan.org\/main\/events-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Events"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\">2013 Guisachan\u00a0Gathering\u00a0<\/h1>\n<h3 align=\"center\"><em><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino; font-size: 18px; text-decoration: underline;\">By Doreen McGugan, Chairman, Golden Retriever Club of Scotland<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\"><span class=\"seasonalpro-dropcap taupe\">G<\/span>olden events at Guisachan date back more than a decade. In 2001 the Golden Retriever Club of Scotland organised a very informal visit to the Guisachan estate.\u00a0 Around 50 people turned up with approximately 40 dogs.\u00a0 We met at the house and enjoyed a picnic before taking part in some games (throw the wellie\u00a0 and scurries for the dogs)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In the evening many of us met at the Tomich Hotel for a dinner to talk over the days events.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p>A few years later in 2006,\u00a0\u00a0 before the 60<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary of the forming of the GRCS,\u00a0 we thought that it might be a nice idea to return to Guisachan.\u00a0 As the idea developed we decided to run a much larger event with a formal dinner followed the next day by an Open Show. The\u00a0 Gathering was run on similar lines as the 2013 Gathering and was enjoyed by everyone who attended.\u00a0 Dogs were counted and 188 Goldens were pictured at the house in the now famous picture taken by Lynn Kipps.\u00a0 The next day in the grounds of the Tomich Hotel we held our Open Show which was judged by Mervyn Philpott from the famous \u201cWestley\u201d kennel.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In 2013 we again organised a Guisachan Gathering to follow on from the Centenary celebrations of the Golden Retriever Club of England.\u00a0 Many of the overseas visitors made the long journey from Cirencester to Guisachan through some of the most beautiful countryside in Scotland.\u00a0 The weather was glorious.<\/p>\n<p>The Gathering was wonderful and never in our imagination did we think that so many people would attend. 222 Dogs were counted exceeding the previous count of 188.\u00a0 The previous evening we held a torchlight procession to the house.\u00a0\u00a0 The house was brought to life by amazing lighting in beautiful colours and four of our committee dressed in Victorian costumes.<\/p>\n<p>Before we returned a very welcome dram of whisky and shortbread was enjoyed by all.<\/p>\n<p>We held two Social events\u00a0\u00a0 A formal dinner with a true Scottish flavour with Scottish dancers and a Piper to start the celebration. Dancing went on to the \u201cwee sma\u201dhours\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A social evening was held with a question and answer theme and a chance to catch up with friends.<\/p>\n<p>The final day we held our Championship Show\u00a0 with Sandra Patterson from Australia judging the bitches.\u00a0 Unfortunately Ruth Scholz from Germany was to have judged the Dogs but due to illness was unable to attend.\u00a0 Her place was taken by yours truly, GRCS Chairman Doreen\u00a0 McGugan.<\/p>\n<p>A really successful event with many new friendships made.
